I am often asked how long they need to stay in therapy or how many sessions will it take before they remove a problem from their life.
That is very dependent of what the problem is and its severity and how committed you are to the therapy process.
Why should the first session be free?
A therapist has a responsibility to to their clients to do the best they can and keep to their skill levels and work safely.
Until a therapist meets or is able to talk to the client there is no way to make any assessments or check for ethical issues.
You also need the time to to get to know your prospective therapist before making any financial commitment.
In my humble opinion to charge for the first session as a counselor or psychotherapist is unethical as it is required for assessment proposes and safety.
It also seems unfair that the client may be expected to pay for a session only to find that they do not like the therapist or are turned down for further sessions by the therapist for other reasons.
As a therapist working on-line I do not work with psychosis I only deal with neurosis
My guarantee to you is that you can decide not to pay after the second session of therapy with no questions asked.
There is a refundable deposit of £15.00 for the second session to stop time wasters.
There are no demands or questions just let me know that you do not wish to book another session and the session fee is canceled and the £15.00 deposit is also refunded as long as you have given me 24 hours notice.
If you wish to continue later on all you need to do is pay the original fee and therapy can continue as before.
How fast therapy works is always an unknown factor, you can some times feel an improvement after the first session, typically if you do not feel any improvement or feel some sense of emotional change after the fourth session then it is necessary to do a review to see what is the best way forward before continuing or ending.
